A single-action semi-automatic handgun based on the design of the M1911 the Smith Wesson SW1911 was introduced in 2003. Chambered in 45 ACP or 9mm (9x19mm) it includes a steel or scandium alloy frame. Other features include a thumb and beaver-tail grip safety skeletonized hammer and trigger and an external extractor.
